Description and appearance

The institution was officially opened in mid-June 1999, but the first organized excursionists entered here in 2000. The first floor of the Stalinist residential building served as a shelter for the exposition. She got her present look already in 2004, until that time there was only one hall.

The collection was collected under the leadership of Eduard Pyatigorsky - historian and local historian of the Tuapse region. The founder of the Museum of Defense wrote a work that can be used as a scientific tool - “1942. Tuapse defensive operation. " For information to people who are keen on, we note: it would be advisable to study documents and objects of storage, having already familiarized ourselves with this interesting book. Moreover, a geographical atlas of the military events taking place here is attached to it. You can get it in the local reading department.

The Museum of Defense in Tuapse is a unique place where the events of 1942 are resurrected in front of us. They are only an episode of the large-scale Battle for the Caucasus (July 1942 - autumn 1943) and are directly related to operations of the so-called defensive period. Exhibits await guests on an area of 150 square meters. m - in two halls at once.

What interesting awaits here Tuapse guests?

The first hall is called Tuapse Defensive Operation. Residential quarters and suburban rural villages were to be captured by the 17th Wehrmacht army led by Ruoff. The fact is that from August 7 Armavir was already captured by its soldiers, and from May 9 - Maykop and Krasnodar. The remains of three rifle brigades and the same number of cavalry divisions were thrown to protect the resort, three times less than the original number. Initially, Soviet troops managed to repel the pressure of the Nazis.

Then they began to bomb the city. However, at the beginning of winter, the enemy, who was at the borders of the city, was still attacked by the Red Army. And the audience is presented with a hypsometric, voluminous, map of protective actions, as well as a diorama created by the artist O. Sidorov - “View of the ruined Tuapse after the air raid”. Of course, on the walls and shelves you will find other material - items from the excavation, some maps, letters, surviving awards, weapons and much more.

The second thematic space - “Tuapse Defenders Memorial Hall”. Here you will see photos of military personnel and townspeople-militias. We emphasize that later they were joined by two training battalions of the Uryupinsky infantry school. So, here are stored the personal belongings of the defenders found, old newspaper articles devoted to them. You can get an idea about the armament of these people. Directly exhibited Mosin rifles (1891-1941 gg.).

By the way, sniper variety of this small weapon causes special curiosity in men. And here we also see under the glass a lot of all sorts of awards: badges, medals, orders. The lecturer’s story about the exploits of young soldiers and militias opposing the well-armed and not yet severely worn out 17th army of the Nazis causes special emotions. We are talking about L. Kondratiev, L. Mironova and others. The main content of the stationary exhibition is confirmed by the archives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Federal Republic of Germany. The collection fund continues to replenish thanks to the work of search teams.

Reviews call this place "interesting for both adults and young visitors", "an institution with competent guides" and "a house where you suddenly realize that most Tuapse heroes were 20 years old." Although the desired locality did not become a hero city, the memory of its defenders should become the property of every new generation of Russians. And if you are school-age children, you are even more obliged to go to this museum center. In conclusion, we offer an educational video about him and about the historical events of that time, a pleasant viewing!

1. Quay Tuapse

The main attraction of Tuapse is the embankment, it is quite cozy and it is pleasant to walk on it in the subtropical climate of southern Russia. On the promenade there is a good playground, a small stadium, a floating restaurant and a monument to the crew of the destroyer Kerch, many benches on which to relax. The most noticeable attraction of the embankment, which is hard to miss, is the tower of the port control center, its height is 70 meters, and locals call it “Chupa-Chups” for its characteristic appearance. From the promenade there is access to the pier, where sightseeing boats moor. It offers a wonderful view of the port of Tuapse, unfortunately, a beautiful view spoils a huge hangar with chemical fertilizers, it can be clearly seen in the photo.

2. Central square

The central square is the main resting place for locals and tourists, it is the real concentration of the various attractions of Tuapse. First of all, it is worth mentioning the light and music fountain "Tuapse Lighthouse", the center of attraction for children of different ages. In the center of the square is the obelisk of “Fighters for the power of the Soviets” in the form of a bayonet 21 meters high. Down from the central square is the Tuapse embankment with stunning views of the port harbor. Surrounding the square is the Palace of Culture of Sailors, an original design hotel "Caravel", built of glass and concrete and the Museum of Defense of Tuapse. And it dominates the square house-book of the Brezhnev building.

3. The stela "City of military glory"

On the side of the central square is the youngest Tuapse landmark, namely, the City of Military Glory stela, opened in 2012, is an 11 meter high granite column, the top of which is crowned with the Coat of Arms of Russia made of gilded bronze.

4. Tuapse Dolmens

The main historical attraction of Tuapse is the ancient Dolmens located on the slope of the Bogatyrka Mountain. If you come to Tuapse to relax, then you will first be offered an excursion to them. In total, about 400 dolmens of different years were found in the vicinity of Tuapse. A typical dolmen consists of four stone slabs installed vertically, and the fifth covers them, forming a house. The age of dolmens corresponds to 1300 - 2400 years. BC.

5. Museum of Local History

On a small heel in the center of Tuapse there are several iconic sights, this is the Museum of Local History, the main cultural attraction of Tuapse, right next to the museum is a wooden church of the Metropolitan of Moscow and All Russia St. Alexy, and the ancient dolmen is in front of the entrance.

The museum was founded almost immediately after the war in 1946, the main theme of the museum is the history of the formation of the city, but in addition there is a good numismatic and ethnographic collection, an archaeological exhibition based on local excavations stands apart. In the archaeological exhibition you can see the tools and life of the primitive people of the Paleolithic, Early Bronze Age and the early Middle Ages.

6. Hill of Heroes

On the pioneer hill, in the highest part of the city, there was a large part of the anti-aircraft air defense batteries covering the city from raids by Nazi invaders. The Germans during the years 1942-43 made many attempts to raze the city to the ground, primarily anti-aircraft batteries, which prevented the city from bombing, and also shot down planes with crosses on their wings.

On the eve of the 20th anniversary of the victory in World War II in 1965, a monument dedicated to the Unknown Soldier was unveiled and a decision was made to rename the Pioneer Hill in the Hill of Heroes.

7. Seaport of Tuapse

Tuapse, unlike most other cities in southern Russia, is not a resort city, but a real worker, you understand this immediately upon arrival. No matter where you go, you will still notice the bulk of the refinery built right in the center of Tuapse, it divides the city exactly into two halves. And besides the refinery owned by the Rosneft company, there is also a large port around which all life is in full swing. On the one hand, it gives work, on the other, it’s a real curse of the city, because consider directly in the center are the capacities for transshipment of oil, chemical fertilizers and coal, only 20 million tons of transshipment of not the most environmentally friendly raw materials per year, and you hardly expect to see all this in a beautiful city, which would make an excellent resort.

But despite the negative points, Port Tuapse is a real attraction of the city, where you will see as close as you see the huge bulk of tankers and dry cargo ships from different countries.
